DepEd’s Aral Program Is a Step Toward Real Learning Recovery
I see hope in the Department of Education’s ARAL Program.
Many students fell behind during the pandemic, and some are still catching up today. When I first heard about the program, I wondered if it would just be another plan on paper. But as I listened closely, I realized it answers a real need inside our classrooms.
The Aral Program focuses on helping learners improve their reading and math skills. These are not small subjects. Reading and counting are the foundation of everything we study in school. If a child cannot read well or solve basic math problems, it becomes harder to succeed in higher grades.
Reports in recent years have shown that many Filipino learners struggle with basic skills. Large class sizes and limited time make it hard for teachers to give extra attention to every student. This is where the ARAL Program becomes important. It gives focused support to learners who need more time and guidance.
ARAL Program is a program that offers tutoring and targeted lessons is better than allowing students to move forward without fully understanding their subjects. Education is not just about finishing the school year. It is about making sure students truly learn.
Learning recovery is its main goal, that makes it really effective. It does not simply push students to pass — it helps them master the lessons they missed. The ARAL Program may not be perfect, but it is a strong step in the right direction. If supported well, it can help restore the skills and confidence that many Filipino learners need.
